The province of Benguela, in Angola, is experiencing days of great sadness and alert after heavy rains caused severe flooding in several areas. According to information released by the press and local authorities, the disaster was aggravated by the rupture of the Cavaco River's protective dike, causing large-scale flooding.
The floodwaters reached neighborhoods such as Calomanga, Tchipiandalo, Massangarala, Cotel, and Santa Teresa, as well as agricultural areas important for the livelihood of many families. The scene is one of destruction, with countless houses flooded and families forced to leave everything behind in search of shelter.
According to updated data from emergency services, at least 8 people have died and another 7 remain missing as a result of the floods. Hundreds of families have been displaced, many of them having to take refuge on rooftops and higher ground to escape the force of the water.

In addition to damage to homes, the tragedy also compromised the region's infrastructure, causing road closures between Benguela and Lobito, suspension of railway lines, collapse of bridges, and damage to the province's main water supply pipeline, raising concerns about access to drinking water in the coming days.
Given the situation, the Provincial Government of Benguela reported that emergency teams remain mobilized to assist victims, carry out evacuations, and provide support to affected families.
The tragedy reignites the cry for the Angolan nation and reinforces the need for intercession for the people of Benguela in this moment of profound sorrow. As a ministry committed to the nations and to missionary work, the Gideons 24h continue in prayer for Angola, asking the Lord for comfort for the bereaved families, help for those in need, and strengthening of the local Church to continue being an instrument of hope amidst adversity.
