Even in the face of decades of war, insecurity, and religious persecution, the work of the Gideões 24h Diante do Senhor ministry continues to be active in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, mobilizing churches and Christians in an ongoing movement of prayer and intercession.
The information was shared by Pastor Ndjibu Alphonse, who is responsible for the Gideons' work in the city of Bukavu and other regions of the country.
According to the leader, the situation in eastern Congo remains delicate due to a conflict that has lasted for more than 30 years. He stated that the war involves territorial and economic interests linked to the region, especially regarding the control of strategic areas and mineral resources.
Churches affected by the war
The pastor reports that, over the years, several churches have been directly impacted by the conflicts. Some Christian communities have had their temples destroyed, suffered bombings, and, at certain times, were prevented from holding services.
Even with a slight recent improvement in the security situation, restrictions imposed by local authorities remain. Currently, prayer vigils are not permitted, and activities such as climbing mountains to pray are also prohibited. Furthermore, there are specific authorized times for worship services, meetings, and moments of intercession.
The adaptation of prayer towers
Given this scenario, the Gideons 24h reorganized the operation of the prayer towers to keep the prayer active without compromising the safety of the faithful.
According to Pastor Ndjibu, each community or denomination within the ministry has taken responsibility for the prayer tower on specific days of the week, operating on a rotating system from Monday to Sunday.
Prayer services continue to take place daily, at alternating times and adapted to the safety requirements established by local authorities.
Prayer as a spiritual weapon
Even amidst the difficulties, Congolese Christians remain steadfast in their faith. The pastor affirms that the churches have responded positively to the prayer program, understanding intercession as a spiritual weapon in the face of violence, insecurity, and the losses caused by the war.
"The Gideons' 24-hour prayer tower program has impacted churches and Christians, keeping them active in the presence of the Lord, presenting their needs and seeking solutions to this war," he reported.
According to him, the faithful remain steadfast in prayer, believing that God can transform situations and provide answers to the challenges they face daily.
Union between nations
The coordinator of the Gideons in Congo also expressed gratitude for the prayers received from Brazil and other nations, highlighting the importance of the unity of the Body of Christ in difficult times.
He also mentioned the spiritual support he received from Pastor Ângela Valadão, with whom he maintains constant contact regarding the progress of the prayer towers and the situation of churches in the country.
Faith that endures amidst crisis.
Despite the limitations imposed by the war, the work of the Gideons 24h Before the Lord continues to strengthen churches, encourage leaders, and keep the flame of intercession alive in Congo.
Amidst violence, restrictions, and uncertainty, Christians continue to gather to pray, believing that God remains in control of all things and that prayer continues to be a powerful instrument of transformation for the nations.
